Fatayer

Many many years ago somewhere in the Middle East an excellent appetizer was made. It's called Fatayer which basically means Pastry. If you've tried Lahmajun or Empanadas you'll easily fall for this extremely tasty appetizer.

INGREDIENTS

For the dough
1kg Flour
1 Tablespoon salt
1 pack yeast
water

For the stuffing
1kg ground beef
2 medium size onions chopped
few leaves mint
2 tablespoons parsley
1 tomato
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 spoon red pepper
salt and pepper
juice from 2 lemons

PREPARATION
Put the flour, salt and yeast in a bowl. Add water and mix until obtaining smooth and soft dough. Cover the bowl with a plastic bag or a cloth. Leave for 1 hour.
Put the ground beef in a pan and cook for 15-20 minutes, until it gets brown color. Put the onion and cook for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the rest of the ingredients stir few times and leave it to get colder.
From the dough make a french bread like form and cut it in 2cm peaces and make small balls. Cover them with a cloth and leave for 30min.
From every ball make a disc with a 15cm diameter.
Cover the discs with the preparation and form triangles. Put them to bake.
Spread butter over the baked fatayer.
Best served with yogurt
